Welcome
Youth work has always been concerned with health issues. With the increasing emphasis on young people's health, often in a very negative context, workers need to be able to inform, support and advise young people in an effective way. This course aims to help you to achieve that.
The health-e learning is set out in five modules. Four cover the four main areas of health. One module is an introductory module that sets out definitions and approaches that will underpin health work with young people.
We would recommend that you aim to complete one of the 5 modules before starting others, but encourage you to complete them all. Even if you are working in a project specialising in one of the areas, we feel it important that ALL who work with young people have a good grounding in all of the health areas. It doesn't matter what order, although it may help to do the introductory module at the start of your learning journey!
Each module has text information supported by some interactive quizzes and games. There is a notes page for you to jot down thoughts and ideas as you go. At the end of each module you can access the assessment. Do this and you get a certificate to print off to record and celebrate your learning.
Remember that these modules are designed as a short introduction to the four health areas. We hope that they will stimulate your interest and encourage you to take up further training in the future.
This training works alongside other National Youth Agency resources from the "Youth Work for Health" team, including the Good Practice Guidelines for Healthy Youth Work quality assurance tool and the Health Activities Resource Pack, which includes over 60 activities around a range of health themes.
We welcome feedback on the resource so please do let us know via the feedback area or the survey if you have any comments or anything that you think would be useful.
When you have looked through all the content please take the time to fill in the feedback survey. Your feedback is gratefully received and is used to help improve the system.
The NYA would like to thank the following organisations and individuals for their contributions, support and inspiration:
